JOBS WITHIN THE SOCIETY
A Director is the person who plans the show and runs the rehearsals. We welcome experienced directors but if you would like to learn what a director does and gain some experience then we invite you to become an assistant Director.
Every show requires different types of actors. We welcome anyone to come to the open auditions, doesn't matter if you have never been in a show before. Check out the homepage for details of auditions.
A choreographer makes up the dance steps to the music chosen for the show. They also run the dance rehearsal and teach the dances to the cast. Sometimes there are alot of dances for the chrous to learn and we have an assistant choreographer. This is a great chance to gain some experience.
The Musical Director can choose, depending on the show, and teach the songs to the cast and chrous. They often run a full cast rehearsal and responsible for organising the band. We often have assistant Musical Diretors if you would like to gain some experience.
The Stage Manager is responsible for the stage and backstage area. They make and paint scenery so if you're handy with a hammer then this could be the role for you. They keep the show running smoothly and change the scenery during a show. We also have assistant stage managers if you would like to gain some experience.
The lighting technician sets up the stage lights and follows a lighting plot..want to know more about gels, shadows, rigging? A great chance to gain experience of the production side.
The Sound Technician works closely with the Musical Director to ensure that microphones are set correctly and sound cues are used. We have a sound system/desk installed and this a another chance to experience the production side of a performance.
A Make-up artist plans the make-up for the cast and chorus of a show. They also are backstage show nights to help apply the make-up and organise the make-up stock.
Do you write your own plays/pantomimes? Would you like to see them come to life? Get in touch with us and we could be performing your show!
Do you like to make clothes? We have a large room full of various costumes but sometimes we need them altering or new costumes made. The whole cast and chorus need costumes so job needs someone who is creative. We sometimes have wardrobe assistants if you want to get some experience.
Stage Crew work with the Stage Manager to set the stage during show nights but they also help build/paint scenery on the run up to the show. This is a great way to gain experience backstage
FRONT OF HOUSE
We always need people to help Front Of House on show nights. There are a range of jobs such as running the tuck shop, selling raffle tickets, helping make refreshments in the kitchen, Front of House Manager, selling programmes, showing audience to their seats and ensuring the hall is re-set ready for the next show.
Are you good on a computer? Every show has a programme which contains alot of information.. This Programme Editor has to collect all this information and present it in an organised way. The programmes are sold before the show and given to the cast.
Each show requires a variety of props and sometimes they are unusual items. We have alot of props backstage and if you are the person who can dig them out, or find anything we are missing then please get in touch.
The Publicity Officer gets in touch with local newspapers and creates press releases to help promote our shows. They organise a team to distribute flyers and posters around the local area. The Society needs to be publicised to get new members and audience in so this is a very important role.
BOX OFFICE/TICKET SECRETARY
The ticket secretary takes the bookings for seats. They have to ensure that they respond to e-mails and phone calls, also book seats and follow the floor plan. If you could assist with this then please get in touch.
NEW TO AMDRAM
Amateur Dramatics can be alot of fun and you can meet some great people. However there are some things that, if everyone follows, can make the experience even better!
